Annual Festival of New Works
Brand:NEW has been developing new work since 1998, and shows developed as part of the festival include Lisa Kron’s Well, Tony Kushner’s Homebody/Kabul, Craig Wright’s Grace and others, many of which have gone on to receive productions at Hartford Stage, regionally, and in New York both on and off Broadway. Eleven plays developed in Brand:NEW have been produced at Hartford Stage, including the world premieres of Breath and Imagination by Daniel Beaty, Quiara Alegria Hudes’ Water by the Spoonful, Michael Kramer’s Divine Rivalry and Laura Eason’s adaptation of Tom Sawyer.
Every year, five of today’s most exciting playwrights – along with actors, directors, stage managers, dramaturgs and assistants – will take over Hartford Stage’s rehearsal halls to write, re-write, experiment and dream.
