In The Classroom

In School Residencies

Connections

Connections is an in-school residency that teaches literacy through theatre. For five consecutive days, a Hartford Stage teaching artist visits your classroom to lead drama activities that build excitement about a piece of literature. Through improvisation, role-play, dialogue, and a host of other dramatic tools, students will actively explore the context, plot, and characters of the book—gaining prior knowledge, creating suspense, and encouraging empathy. At the end of the program, each student receives a copy of the book to keep and to read.

Innovations

Our newest arts-integrated school program is a five-day science residency, custom-designed for grade level and content, that uses drama techniques to actively and creatively explore a scientific concept. Innovations residencies link directly to state standards in science and are designed to increase scientific literacy by providing students with the opportunity to engage emotionally with classroom content.
