The CenterStage Internship Program welcomes applications from students of accredited colleges and universities. Extensive professional experience is not a requirement, although some professional experience is preferred. Interns learn on the job by working side by side with Hartford Stage staff, gaining practical experience in a Nationally Acclaimed Regional Theatre. The exact parameters of a particular Internship are based on the requirements of the Intern's accredited institution and the current needs of their assigned Department. The CenterStage Program is willing to cooperate with the Intern and the accrediting institution to create parameters acceptable to all parties, but it should be stressed that CenterStage Internships are working programs and Interns are called upon to perform a variety of tasks within their particular discipline.
All CenterStage Internships are unpaid. Complimentary tickets for each production, as well as complimentary work-week parking are offered as additional benefits. College Credit may be available to you, and CenterStage will cooperate with the Intern's school to arrange academic credit, although, once again, it is the Intern's responsibility to make such arrangements.
One function of the CenterStage Program is to serve as a training ground for future Hartford Stage staff members, as well as future colleagues in the American Theatre. Some current and former Hartford Stage staff members began as Interns and worked their way through the ranks.
"As a CenterStage intern I found a solid base of industry professional mentors and friends who truly care about my personal success and the development of emerging leaders in professional theatre. Over the course of a year-and-a-half I successfully completed three CenterStage internships and was then mentored in a unique process of associate producing a major reading and co-coordinating the 2009 Brand:NEW Festival of New Work. Your career development will be guided by a team of staff connected with off- and on-Broadway and regional theatre all over the country but your experience at Hartford Stage is in your hands; grab on and make it yours". -- Jared Weber (Former Company Management, Marketing & Artistic Intern. Currently working at the Hartford Stage as Assistant to the Managing Director since 11/09)
