Come play with your little one as we explore stories, songs and movement in this acting class created just for our littlest performers. Bring out your preschooler’s dramatic side! Each parent/guardian will stay with their child to help guide them through the class activities.

Ages 5-8

Musical Theatre Cabaret Jr.

Saturdays, Jan. 21-Mar. 18, 2017

Students will learn to develop characters and express personality through song and dance. The class will culminate with a final showcase of students’ talents. No previous experience needed!

Creative Drama: Under the Sea Exploration

Acting for the Camera

Production Class: Twain's Tales*

Twain's Tales follows a group of townspeople gathered on the front porch of the general store, each trying to tell their best tall tale. Featuring five short stories by master American storyteller Mark Twain, as well as the fence-painting chapter from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, this play provides rollicking good fun for the whole family! Prior Hartford Stage class experience or audition with the Studio Manager required.

Scene Study: At the Movies!

Monologue Building

Students will enhance their repertoire by working on age-appropriate monologues and practicing techniques to create a nuanced performance and strong audition piece.

Work one-on-one with one of our teaching artists! Lessons will be scheduled by appointment only in 30-minute sessions. Attention will be given to voice and speech work, character development, physical acting, audition techniques and material selection.

Spend a week with us creating a performance based the story of Peter Pan! We will explore material from Peter Pan, Finding Neverland and Peter and the Starcatcher. Students will be placed in groups based on age and will spend the day dancing, singing and acting!

Summer Studio Teen Musical

Ages 14-19
July 10-August 11 (with additional performances on August 12)

Teens will have the opportunity to rehearse and perform in a full production of Pippin, which will be performed in the Hartford Stage theatre in downtown Hartford.  Teens will participate in acting classes, electives and workshops with guest artists.  Students involved will also work as mentors for younger  students as a leadership building component of the program.


Summer Studio Youth Ensemble

Students are cast in either a musical or non-musical production. Students spend mornings rehearsing and afternoons exploring elective classes of their choice. Once a week, the Youth Ensemble enjoys a field trip together. This year’s shows are Singin’ in the Rain, Jr. and The Canterville Ghost, a Radio Play.

Students will take classes in story theatre, creative movement, music, puppetry, and arts and crafts, and go on a weekly field trip. Each session ends in a mini-production that the cast creates based on favorite stories and characters.

One-Act Play
