The Spirit of Giving

A Christmas Carol

The Spirit of Giving

By Claire Stermer, Development Apprentice

Each Christmas, young Ebenezer Scrooge’s kindly employer, Mr. Fezziwig, threw a party for all his employees. Everyone at the party, including Scrooge, welcomed this celebration. After a night of plentiful food, music and dancing, Scrooge realized the value of treating others with kindness and respect.

“He [Mr. Fezziwig] has the power to render us happy or unhappy; to make our service light or burdensome; a pleasure or a toil…the happiness he gives is quite as great as if it cost a fortune.” (Stave 2).

As a nonprofit, contributions from our donors make up more than 40% of Hartford Stage’s annual operating income. Even if every single ticket were sold, we would still need gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations to support our work. Simply put, we cannot create our art, educate our children, and enrich our community without the loyal and faithful contributions that we receive each year.

Corporate sponsorships with Hartford Stage for our MainStage productions and A Christmas Carol provides companies with unique privileges and benefits designed to increase company recognition, provide special client entertaining, enhance employee benefits, and heighten community relations.

Hartford Stage has two entertaining spaces for your company’s private event. We work with four top-notch catering partners to offer a variety of meal options. Jennifer Levine, our Donor Events and Corporate Relations Manager, handles all the details.
