Were you here in 2012? Are you one of the lucky ones that squeezed into one of the final performances of A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder at Hartford Stage? This is the first Tony Award-winning musical since Annie to start at a Connecticut theatre! And it all started more than 2 years ago right here in your own back yard.

JANUARY 2012
Darko, authors Steven Lutvak and Robert Freedman, Jefferson Mays, and a small group of actors developed the musical in a week-long workshop here in Hartford.

OCTOBER 2012
A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder premieres at Hartford Stage in a four-week run. Charles Isherwood of The New York Times said the production “ranks among the most inspired and entertaining new musical comedies I’ve seen in years.”

MARCH 2013
The cast and creative team ride the wave of success out to California for a sold out run at The Old Globe Theatre.

OCTOBER 2013
A year after its World Premiere at Hartford Stage. After 5,647 miles on the road. With a cast of 11, up from the original eight, and an orchestra of 16, up from the original six. A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder opens on Broadway! The toast of the season, Gentleman’s Guide ran away with nominations and multiple awards, including 4 Tony Awards for Best Director of a Musical — our own Darko Tresnjak — Best Book of a Musical, Best Costume Design of a Musical, and the American Theatre Wing’s top prize, Best Musical!
